Dodged a bullet before the trade deadline

It's being reported on local media outlets here that earlier this week the Blazers were in talks with the Wizards for their big man Brendan Haywood.  And I applaud Portland for going after a commodity like Haywood.  He would've given the team a boost in the paint since LaMarcus doesn't really like to be in the paint.

But I applaud the Blazers more for walking away from the deal.  The Wizards in return for their center wanted two players - Rudy Fernandez and Nicolas Batum.

And the Blazers obviously know which side their bread is buttered on.  And it gives me the peace of mind to know that they're not looking to trade away Batum anytime soon.

We would have been two pissed off Blazer fans if they traded those two away. Dodged a "Bullet" indeed...

For reals.

Freaking Blazers got my pulse going for a minute there.

I probably would've had to get the NBA League pass if my boy had been traded to the East Coast.

And yes, I got the bullet joke. I don't know why I had to make it obvious by capitalizing and quoting it. I spoil fun.

I don't think that was ever a realistic trade idea, but you're right - terrible idea. I think Batum is all but untouchable, or at least I tell that to myself to make me feel better.

I think the Blazers counter-offer would have been something like, "oh yeah? we'll give you Patty Mills and some of Przybilla's leftover bone fragments for your guy" and then if either side was serious about working something out they'd try to meet somewhere in the middle (i.e. something not involving Batum.)
