Friday Night Smackdown 1/15/2010

It's Topps Heritage High Numbers 2009 Baseball vs. 09/10 Panini Prestige Basketball

1 pack each - no holds barred (so long as it doesn't bend the corners or scratch the surface)

So, I stopped by Target again.  Like I do every week.  To buy just all sorts of stuff that we can't live without.  And while browsing the card wall I had a hard time choosing two basketball packs with a pack of Heritage staring me in the face.  So I'll bent the rules and put one sport up against another.

Now for the Prestige...
I admit I have no idea who thought this design was prestigious.  It really isn't.  It's just got soft white edges over the photography.  Classy?  Maybe.  Not prestigious.

Really, not that exciting.  But these are base cards.  There was also a Patrick Beverly RC.  And the redeeming card of the pack was this Baron Davis:

It's a Bonus Shots red insert /300.  But really, the only thing that sets it apart is the tiny red emblem in the corner.  Panini needs some work on it's parrallels.

For Heritage to lose this match, it would have to be a really bad pack.

But it wasn't horrible.  First off, I got three RC's.

Not a huge fan of any of those guys.  But 3 RC's will some day help somebody with their set.  And not pictured was a Fernando Nieve and Latroy Hawkins cards.  What made the pack for me was the Cliff Floyd card pictured below.

Those silly Padres.  I try to get away.  I don't buy baseball packs in forever.  And what do I see?  That Padres emblem staring me in the face.  No bother though.  My wife still says that we're a Mariners house.  But I might just stash this card away somewhere.  It might be a sign.

Winner?  Heritage.  Not even a close match.

Beware the Prestigious.  I had no idea that it was so...bland.  Too bad.  Now they can't use that name for a better product.

Panini is ridiculous with that Artist Proof and Bonus Shots junk. Panini is kind of ridiculous in general. Heritage would probably beat anything it went up against, being so badass and all. You should put it up agaist Topps Basketball and see what happens.
