But man alive do I miss watching baseball. I'm even re-watching the playoffs from last year on MLB network - which works because they always come on a few hours before the Blazers. And they cut out all the time from pitching changes with editing (pretty smart).
I took the girls to the playground today. And since we live in the Portland area, January for us isn't as bad as it is for other folks. I don't know, it was 50 degrees outside, slight breeze, green grass...and I just was sooo ready for spring baseball.
I love spring and summer baseball. Fall baseball starts to wear on me. So as nostalgic as I feel right now for baseball is the exact opposite of how I'll feel come September. It's right around September when I get tired of baseball and get geared up for some NBA action.
And I was digging through some old cards I had today when I came across this nifty Topps Heritage 2008 Advertising Panel:
And it made me think about what a honk I am for Heritage baseball. I know some people hate it, but I like it. And this is the first Advertising panel, cabinet card, whatever, that I had ever pulled. And this year should be based on the 1961 cards. And I really love the early 60's cards. In fact I'm still toying with going after the 1963 set. In fact, I just might. There are some crazy expensive cards from that year. But that's true of every vintage year. So I can't complain too much about it if I decide to do it.
But in the meantime, I need to direct my focus and collect with a purpose, otherwise it just isn't any fun anymore.
So I think what I'm going to do this year is try and round off the RC's I need for Panini. And I'm going to work on completing the Murad set. And in a departure, I'm going to collect the 2010 Heritage set. I may open a new blog just for the 2010 Heritage set.
Barring any cut autos, I think it would be fun to do the base, maybe the chrome, and the autos and game used.
But right now I would love to be sitting at the ball park waiting for the first pitch. Not to worry though. The Blazers play again tomorrow and I'll forget all about this silly baseball business.

I get the same way about baseball. It's because the season is so damn long. By the time football and basketbal come around, I lose interest. This is definately the time of year to get excited for baseball, though. Heritage is awesome. I'm working on the 2009 set now. Slowly working on it. 2010 Heritage and Topps flagship are probably the only baseball sets I'm going to buy. Especially now that I'm spending money on Topps basketball. It's funny that I seem to be more satisfied with the lower end stuff than people are with the high end.
