Every once in a great while, a complete enigma hits the sports world leaving fans and collectors wondering out loud, "what the hell?" That enigma today is none other than Agent Zero, Gilbert Arenas.
Now hobby-wise, Gilbert has seen a lull in his offerings due to his injury that has kept him out of the public eye for a while. And secondly, he's playing in D.C. It's a big town, but not a big NBA town. Although it could become more of an NBA town now that the Redskins and Nationals are so bad.
But even so, nobody could deny that Gilbert, when healthy, is one of the better players in the league. And now finally, he comes back to the league - healthy, and he's looking to start adding some spark and some W's to the Wizards squad. Finally.
And then Gilbert, one of the more known players in the league, gets busted for gun play in the locker room? It sounds so absurd that it almost must have some truth to it. Why a multi-millionaire would keep a gun in an NBA arena (in D.C.) is beyond me. It's beyond me, but it doesn't surprise me. I had to live through the Jail Blazers era. More of those guys did more stupid things than any one fan should have to endure.
Now, prior to this incident, I would've put Gilbert Arenas cards to BUY. Seriously, he was out of the spotlight long enough, and quite a few good rookies have come into the league since then, that his cards were being offered at a great price. But taking the investigation into account, you have to hold.
Scanning through the auctions, his stuff is nearly at rock bottom prices as it is (although not quite rock bottom). I wouldn't sell his stuff yet because there is a chance that he bounces back from this and puts some value back in his stock. The fact that he's still playing and hasn't been arrested quite yet leads me to believe he could come out of this ok.
But certaintly don't buy either. If, for whatever reason, you want to get some Arenas sigs and swatches, hold out until the DA releases it's findings. The prices could drop even farther, you never know.
Still, what an idiot for putting himself in this situation.

Greatest Jailblazer moment was Qyntel Woods using his rookie card as I.D. after getting pulled over. F-ing classic.
