The quest to build the complete Murad set, combined with the journey into collecting hockey. Yeah, I changed the blog name again. I'm cool like that.

What does DA Card World know that we don't?
I was just on the site looking at boxes of pretty much all the 08/09 stuff (Murad and Bowman purposes). And what I found at DA Card World was actually pretty shocking. Just look at the prices of pretty much anything Upper Deck. SP Rookie Threads is always super spendy. And now it's half off? Even other UD offerings from the year are at rock bottom prices. Some of the formerly 70 dollar boxes are selling at 20 dollars. Really.
Why is that? Well, it must mean that certain boxes are just not going to have redemptions redeemed. Really, what else could it be? I've never seen 20 dollar boxes for Upper Deck....anything in basketball.
But are there deals to be had then? I'd say yes. If you're a set builder, I'd say buy. And, if you don't mind getting shorted a hit or two in a box due to redemptions, you could also go pretty safe in that route. It's not like the boxes are completely devoid of value, after all. There will be hits.
But if you're thinking about going for the box shown above, beware. When's the last time you saw 13 or 14 hits in a box without a redemption? And the redemptions are often times the better cards - not always, but more often than not. Either way, if you were ok getting 10 hits for your money, it might not be a complete loss. There's still some nice stuff in there.
Just thought I'd let you all know. I'm so focused right now on Murad and Bowman Batum, that I'm not going to delve into UD sets, even if they can be had for rock bottom prices.

I'm pretty sure they just put the current price down and then cross out the original retail price.

Take that, for instance. The box retailed around $175 when it first was released, but it's gone down considerably since then over the years and it's Topps.
The same product is almost identical in price over at Blowoutcards.com.

Thanks for the Update Guy
Walker,
That may be that the prices have fallen uniformly.
But I've not seen prices bottom out on boxes in the 20 dollar range.
Some of the prices were inflated - a few still are. But I'm still pretty shocked that certain stuff got slashed so quick.
Thanks for the info though. I hadn't checked blowout yet. Only because blowout hasn't carried a box of 08/09 Bowman in forever.
I might be up for a $20 box unless it's First Edition...
