Where has E-Gon gone to?

My favorite Padre, is no longer a Padre.  You may not have seen much of him, but Edgar Gonzalez, older brother of Adrian Gonzalez, is not on the team's roster.  That probably pissed Adrian off.  But what do the Padres care?  Everybody and their mother knows that Adrian will be shopped heavily before the trading deadline anyway.  Why would a Major League team like the Padres want to keep All-Star Major League talent?  It's ludicrous.  What they hell did Jake Peavey ever do for them anyway?

Sorry.  I have Padres aggression.  But on the other hand, I do get to watch my favorite players from the Padres go onto better teams - and be happy and successful.

I digress.  Edgar, my man E-Gon, was my favorite.  Because he reminded me of...a version of me.  That passionate, never quit version of me that I used to know.  Edgar was born in '78.  He's 31 or 32 now.  He didn't get the call-up to the Bigs to be with his brother until 2008.  That guy stuck with it.  I remember when I thought I loved things enough to stick with them like that.  But that guy loves baseball.  I'll never forget his first homer.  He hit it for all of us.  All of us sports junkies who are heading towards 30 and 40 and who'll never have the chance to get a "do over" and play any form of professional sports.

And Edgar is playing for the Giants now.  The Yomiuri Giants.  In Japan.  I respect that.  Play until you can't play anymore.

It'll be hard to follow his progress from here - but I'll try.  In the meantime, I'm watching Ichiro and Figgins try to outduel each other with stolen bases.  It's actually quite nice to watch intelligent, competetive baseball.  I hope E-Gon is enjoying the same, wherever he is.
