Fighting my racial identity for 90 minutes

If you were to look at me, you may think that I'm hispanic or italian or middle eastern.  I'm a very hodge podge sort.  Truth be told (or what they told me was the truth), I'm half German, quarter Scottish and a quarter Mexican.

But the Mexican - like the Force - is strong in me.

Somebody highlight that.  That may be the greatest sentence I've yet penned on this site.

Either way, I've got the Mexican last name, the Mexican color and hair, I've learned the Mexican language and for all observers I'm pretty much a Mexican American.  I like Mexicans.  It would be hard to hate something that's a part of you.  I'm not into self-loathing.  I suppose I could hate a mole that's a part of me, if it was big enough.  But that's a different aspect to what makes a person altogether.

I digress.

Politics aside - for I abhor politics - Mexican culture in general is pretty good to me.  However, there is a limit to how much Mexican I can take.  And that limit is the Mexican National Soccer Team.  El Tri.  La Seleccion Nacional.

I can't stand them.  I would go so far as to say that I hate them.  And every time they play - love, absolutely love - to root against them.  And today they play France at around 11AM.  So bonus for me - I seem to have an affinity towards French atheletes.  I don't care if Ochoa or Perez is in goal.  I want to see France destroy Mexico to the tune of 4-0.  A guy can hope can't he?

So, for the game, there will be nothing Mexican about me.  There will only be all of my pent up soccer-frustration directed towards the defeat of the Mexican side.

And after that I will begin my regularly scheduled Mexicanism once again.  I leave you with this.  The funniest thing ever sung about Mexican Americans.  Although it doesn't apply to me entirely.  I love to wake up early.

Maybe you should consider rooting for the teams you do not like. That way they would lose.

I've seriously considered that. Believe me. I'm debating on buying a Mexico jersey at this point. I could bring the whole thing down.
