It's days like today that I'm glad I'm not a baseball collector

So if you hop to any one of a handful of sports card blogs today, you'll pretty much see the results of the fallout from the Stephen Strasburg RC fiasco brought to you by Topps.  And you know what?  It just makes me shake my head.  But I'm not too touched by the development - it's not my sport of choice to collect.  But I feel for the collectors who got duped into buying codes that ended up being turds.

Even though my favorite card is the Bowman Batum (produced by Topps) and my current set that I collect is Murad (also by Topps), I really don't feel any attachment to the brand that has become so synonymous with sports cards.  I'll continue to collect my favorites - with a passion - but in the end, my future in collecting past Murad will involve, most likely, Panini.

And it's a change.  But a good one.  If you haven't fallen in love with the World Cup sticker books, then you have no passion for soccer.  Shame on you.  Panini also brought us a straight forward basketball base set to collect this year.  No gimmicks.  No mystery cards.  Just base, autos and some attractive inserts.  Really, I think I'll take my chances.

And a while back I redeemed a code on the Million Card giveaway.  I haven't sent for it yet.  Can you imagine why?

Yeah, thanks but no thanks.  I'll stick to basketball this year.

Hey Guy--just curious, you gonna be at the Jantzen Beach show this weekend?

No. I'm going to have to work. I'll have weekends off near the end of summer. I plan on hitting some shows then.

How many stickers come in each pack? I saw them at the dollar store a register over...might have to stop back and try and get a set.

I believe it's 8 or 9 a pack, I can't remember. And the book will cost a couple of bucks. But it's fun.

There's a whole group of guys at my job putting the set together - guys who've never bought cards in their life. And they're hooked. Everybody brings in their dupes daily to trade. It's reall a lot of fun.
