So I went to the Target today to get some stuff done and had to make the obligatory pack purchase of some basketball cards. And the card I pulled out of Absolute Memorabilia is a bit of a stunner. It's of a player I've never heard of - and have definetely never seen him included in a card set that features retro players.
Anybody else have any Kelly Tripucka knowledge? Am I a horrible basketball fan if I've never heard of him before? I'm sure somebody will say, "how do you not know him? He scored a thousand points his first year in the league!" Or something like that.
Either way, it's definetely a retro picture. Mustache? Check. Chest hair? Check. Hot shorts? Check.
And hey, it's numbered 299/499. If there are any Kelly Tripucka collectors out there, let me know. I may have a card you've been needing.

Tripuka was a great player from Notre Dame - He was a top rookie from for the Detroit Pistons in 1981-82. He eventually went to the expansion team Charlotte Hornets and averged over 22 point per game for the Hornets in thier first expansion seaons in 1988-89. He was once traded for Adrian Dantley another Notre Dame star. He never had a rookie card because Topps dropped basketball cards in 1982.
Hmmm. Good numbers for the Hornets. Still, just not ringing a bell. But then again, in those days us kids were really only collecting - and paying attention to - a handful of players.
I thought that was John Oates when I first saw it.
I wondered why I've been singing "Sarah Smile" all day. Subliminal messages.
He was an 80's "Legend", and I use the word loosely. He is def an East Coast name eventho he played for the Jazz. He was a stud NJ high school player I think. He works for MSG (Madison Square Garden, Knicks Network) now and is pretty good.
He had a great mustache and an even better white guy fro. He could light it up on occasion too.
