First off, a little Steeler Pride to start the post. I bet Jack Lambert wouldn't have let the Packers win the Super Bowl.
Ok, so this box break was actually more fun than the first. Which is kind of making me want to continue buying pretty cheap boxes of this stuff instead of chasing singles - the jury is still out, but I'll let you all know what my wife says. All box purchases go through her it seems.
As far as base goes on this break, I got 59 cards out of 110 with three dupes (56-Kevin Smith, 68-Peyton Manning and 75-Adrian Peterson). Not bad dupes to get if you're going to have to get some I guess. So when I combine the two boxes, I'm left 29 cards short of the base set for a completion rate of 73.6%. Not too shabby. Pushing the 30 card mark may be enough to present a case to the misses to take a chance on another box. They're just so damn fun to open.
Now I've not decided how I'm going to build this set. Granted, any retro-set that I build will primaribly include the base set. That's a given. But like with the Murad, I took on additional challenges and did checklists, minis and relics. Had I gone for the autos, I'd be looking at hundreds of dollars, if not thousands to build the autos. And that was for stickers. I don't know if I'll go that far with Masterpieces. Plus, I know what's it's cost me to build the relics for the Murad - and there are even more relics in this set. So I'm still deciding on that one. Plus I have to take into account that I'll either build a base set of Gypsy Queen or A&G for baseball this year. God help me if I decide to take on a mini set of either of those two. But I'm going to hold off on relic or auto sets of baseball until the '63 model Heritage comes out. So I do have some time to build another relic set - this may be it. I just haven't decided yet.
Possibly in lieu of a relic set, I may decide to build a framed parallel set. If I did that I'd choose the black bordered non-numbered set. They're pretty sharp.
This box break yielded :
2 - Adrian Peterson
5 - Barry Sanders
10 - Brett Favre
39 - Herm Edwards
A framed parallel set might actually look as sharp as a relic set in this case. It's a great idea. I'll have to troll sportlots and see what the going rates are first.
But the relic set does look awfully good. This break gave me these two:
No white swatches, and two pretty good recievers. I love everything about this relic set - the framing, the way the position and numbered are placed on the cards. It's just a well done relic set. I may yet talk myself into trying to build it.
The auto from the box was actually not bad...for 2008.
Marc Bulger does have a great auto. I'm sure that back when this product came out (and his stellar 2006 season was still in the minds of fantasy owners everywhere) this card was probably much more valuable. As it is now, Bulger is a backup QB who sat on the bench on the Ravens all year. But it's a great looking card either way. If I though I could muster the budget to build this auto set, it would really be something.
And to finish the break off, I had another quirk to this box. Last break gave me three copies of the Don Shula blue framed cards /150.
This break gave me three cards - all green bordered numbered /50 - of a pretty great player.
I got copies 07/50, 08/50 and 09/50. At least this break kept them consecutive. Give up?
3 copies of the Green framed Devin Hester numbered to 50 copies. I'm not really sure what to do with these. I haven't come across any Bears fans on the blogs, but if there are any, they're all for trade. There's no way that I could build a parallel set /50. And I'd rather that these cards would be in the hands of somebody who could appreciate them. It's not a rookie card or anything. But the novelty of having consecutive cards of a player (especially this low-numbered) isn't lost on collectors.
I'll be posting my needs list on the right hand side of the web page later today. Please look to see if you have anything I need - I'm always open to trade.

Very weird box. I might now a guy interested in one of the Hester's. I'll let him know.
Seriously, my verification word is "singl" on Valentine's Day.
Wow. Thanks for that one Blogger! Jerk.
That sucks on the verification word. But at least you're not buying frivolous stuff for a lady. You can just buy frivolous stuff for yourself.
And it is a weird box. But it was weird in a good way. Very fun.
Here is a link to someone with some 08 Heritage to trade away. To top that he is also a Bears collector. I have traded with him once and it went very well.

Sweet looking Barry!!!
That seems to be a trend throughout the whole cases of Masterpieces football. You get the same numbered parallels over and over again. Joe Collector might be interested in one of those Hesters since he's building the /50 set.
I might have to eventually bust a case of football. Baseball comes first, but it is definitely on the list.
You should build that Strokes of Genius set... those autographs are beautiful! I'm debating on busting a few of these boxes myself... maybe we can help each other out.
