I'd like to start this post off by thanking the NBA. I realize that what I'll really miss are a handful of people. I'll miss Batum. I'll miss LaMarcus. I'll miss rooting for my team emblem to win - if that makes any sense. But thanks to the NBA, I've allowed myself to slip from casual hockey fan, to a man that checks NHL.com and the Penguins site more than five times a day. I'm loving it.
I watched all 3 of Pittsburgh's games on the road in Canada, and to pull 5 points of 6 possible while playing in three straight home openers in front of hostile crowds......well, I was impressed. They should've beat Edmonton, but Evgeni was out and Flowers wasn't in goal (look at me just calling him "Flowers" as if I've known him forever). The result? Lots of beer and by the third game, my voice had nearly started to escalate to Evertonian levels. I had a blast watching hockey and playing fantasy hockey.
My wife is 90% ready to let me get the Center Ice package. Seriously, the fact that I'm turning 30 this month may tip that in my favor.
And I love the fact that I can watch the Penguins on their East Coast schedule. That means I typically will get to bed at a good hour. Oh, and their division? I'm already used to rooting against everything Philadelphia and New York. I think I'll fit right in.
Suck it Philly. Rooting against the Flyers will be as easy as hating the Eagles.
