NaBlo WriMo Day 3 - have you said hello to your blog today?
It seems like the Penguins haven't played a game in like two weeks. It's been less than that, obviously, but the feeling can't be helped. I got spoiled when the Penguins played the busiest schedule to start the season because there was always a game on. Now things are starting to level off and I'm having to wait entire work weeks before I see them play again. The NHL must not realize that I'm an impatient sports fan. C'mon already.
Seeing as how I haven't seen the Penguins play in a while, I decided to make a real evening of it. First thing I did - I baked cookies. Chocolate chip cookies. I went to the grocery store and bought the semi-sweet chips, flour, sugars and vanilla and got to mixing and baking. My wife's the cook. I'm the baker.
This move serves two purposes. First off, the kids get to help and get to enjoy cookies with me while I watch the game. Secondly, women love to see their men in the kitchen. Baking doesn't sound manly. But it has a better effect than you would think. It's the gift that keeps on giving. And now my house smells like fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies and it's fall outside and the air is crisp....Damn. It's enough to make a grown man cry when things come together so perfectly.
So what else did I do? I went out and got a Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout beer while I was grocery shopping along with some Jubelale holiday brew. I'm so set. Cookies and beer. It's the new cookies and milk for a more refined age.
To finish the whole thing off, I've got a Partagas sabroso cigar to finish off my evening. A little something I've got left over from my 30th birthday party. What else could I possibly need? How about a win? How about my number one draft pick Evgeni Malkin nets me a second hat trick this week? I'll be cheering either way.
Hey, believe me when I say that I take my sports viewing very seriously. See? That's serious.
Did I also mention it's Movember? I'm trying some new things.
